Season of Seeking in 2013

November 15, 2012

Greetings International Presbytery of the Church of God of Prophecy:

I just wrote this post to Facebook and I thought I would share it with you as well.
Season of Seeking:
In 45 days we will begin a new Season of Seeking in the Church of God of Prophecy. This will be year number seven for our church all around the world to unite together to start the New Year with prayer and fasting. To express our commitment to this important Core Value, thousands in many nations are joining together to fast and pray for some part, or all, of this 21 day period. As I reflect on our six years of ‘seeking’ I realize that God has honored us with so many blessings of grace as we prayed. Just this week I heard a new testimony which is obviously a God/grace thing. For the first time since the International Office has used budgets the International Assembly expenses were on budget. To God be the glory, with thanks to Bishop Paul Holt and his Assembly Task Force for leading the way in this. In the next 45 days I will share some other awesome ways God has poured out His grace as we have committed to ‘SEEK HIM.’
This note is to let you know that once more we will be turning our eyes toward the heavens as we begin this New Year. I invite you to consider how you can join this prayer season. I also invite you to pass the word along to your pastors and churches. Our International Office Facebook page already has the first post and will have a new post each week as we approach this season, as well as many posts during the season. Of course our web site will have information also.
I sat with a leader recently and we reflected on the six years that have just passed. There were numerous situations that ‘could have’ brought distraction or disruption to our Gospel work, but they did not. We both breathed a sigh of relief, said ‘thank God,’ and agreed that prayer has covered us with grace to this point. When God’s people pray, God often answers their prayers, and then God always goes the extra mile to pour grace on them beyond their prayers. I believe that is the testimony we have in the Church of God of Prophecy as we look to our seventh annual ‘Season of Seeking’ to start the New Year with God. Help me invite our people to join this journey.

Winter Conference--COLLISION

Winter Conference: Collision is just 29 days away.  I hope you are making plans to have your students, student leaders and youth workers at this conference.  This conference is one of the best ways to end one year and start the next.  We believe that through this conference great momentum can be gained.  Our team is excited to see what God has in store for us in 29 days.  Much planning and prayer is continually going on for our time together.  We do not want just another conference nor a Jesus pep rally.  We desire the fire of God to descend and permanently alter every single person in attendance.

Registration is going on right now and you'll want to make sure you get your students/leaders to this conference.  Because of limited space, we can only house 200 students.  Therefore, it is extremely important for you to get all applications in as soon as possible.  Applications, schedules, and more information can be found online at www.hydrateministries.com.

We are also giving away a Foosball Table at the end of the conference to one student ministry.  Here's how it works: every youth group that has 15 or more registered will be entered in a drawing to win the foosball table.  The winning student ministry will then have a new foosball table to enjoy at their church each time they get together.

We ask that you remember us in prayer as this conference draws near.  A collision awaits us in 29 days!  Isaiah 6.

Greater things ahead,

Tim Beck

Thanksgiving Season

WITH THANKSGIVING by Tim Beck

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”  Philippians 4:6

Near the end of her life, Frances Ridley Havergal, daily jotted down on a little calendar something she was thankful to God for.   This was her way of thinking about thanking.  I’ve been thinking a lot about thanking myself.  One of the main reasons I believe many prayers go unanswered is due to the fact that we are missing the main ingredient.  The great apostle stresses thanksgiving to us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 by saying, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”  Paul would also remind the believers at Ephesus to, “address one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  Did you know that there are around 138 verses in the Scripture that speak of thanksgiving alone?  Imagine, what would happen in our lives if “thanksgiving in all circumstances” would take center stage in our hearts and thoughts?

Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of people quoting Philippians 4:6, but this is what they are saying, “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known to God.”  Did you catch that?  Read it again!  “With Thanksgiving” is being left out.  Oh and let me say, thanksgiving is also missing from our prayer times, church services, fellowship gathering, etc.  You know it’s true!  When was the last time a testimony service ruined a normal service in your congregation?  And let me add… a true testimony service!  When was the last time you entered your prayer closet thanking God, continued to thank God during your prayer time and then, exited your prayer closet thanking God?   As I type this article, God reminded me of a time when my wife and I were having a quick lunch together.  We sat down and I was in such a rush, my prayer went something like this, “God bless this food.  Sanctify it and let it be nourishment to our bodies.  In Jesus name.  Amen.”  After I concluded my brief prayer, my wife, Bethany spoke up and brought to my attention that I did not even thank God for the food.  Could it be the reason our prayers never reach the throne of grace is because we have failed to mix in the main ingredient?

Beloved, our prayers and supplication must be mixed with thanksgiving.  It is thanksgiving that makes the difference!  I firmly believe it was thanksgiving that protected Daniel in the lion’s den!  I’m convinced it was thanksgiving that caused the fourth man to show up in the fiery furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego!  Yes, I’m persuaded that it was thanksgiving that brought David back to his throne and helped him secure his kingdom once again!  The Psalmist would sing, “We give praise and thanks to You, O God, we praise and give thanks; Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near and they who invoke Your Name rehearse Your wonders.”  Psalm 75:1.   He said those who invoke or summon the Lord are the ones who rehearse His wonders or are thankful.  Thanksgiving must once again be awakened in our prayers, services, fellowships, and conversations.  If we’ve ever needed to invoke the Lord, it is now but it will only happen through thanksgiving.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 21:22, “And whatever you ask for in prayer, having faith and [really] believing, you will receive.”  Faith and believing shows up in thanksgiving!  In everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving make your request known to God.  As we pray, we need to enter in with thanksgiving and conclude with thanksgiving.  We need to thank God that need is already met in Jesus’ name!  We need to rejoice in advance for the miracles that are about to overtake us!  Faith celebrates the victory in the midst of defeat.  Believing shouts, “God is in control”, even when it looks like our circumstances are in control.  Thanksgiving steps up and steps in applauding God in all situations, because we know that He is faithful and His mercy endures forever!  We need less supplication and more thanksgiving!  Try it.  You’ll see a difference!  I promise.

Missions

Word From Global Missions Coordinator Cathy Payne As a young girl at my local church in Norfolk, Virginia, I remember the anticipation that came approaching the months of March and October. These months were the designated times for the World Mission Drive in the Church of God of Prophecy and provided the opportunity to connect with and bless mission ministry around the world. Developing my culinary skills, I would begin baking chewy and wonderful chocolate brownies and transitioned to sales girl in my neighborhood to raise funding and to be a part of that effort.

It has become my privilege to be a part of the new Global Missions entity rising in the International Offices. For us this coming month is again an anticipation of participation with ministries and international family members who truly minister on the front lines of evangelism and mission ministry. We all have the opportunity to become a part of this great effort.

In the next few days, you will be receiving a mission blast from the International Connections filled with information and ideas for ways your local church can participate in this year's October Mission Drive.

REVIVAL! By Team Member: Laura Cobb

When we hear the word “revival,” most of us, if we are honest, think of a set week where a minister has been called in to preach. While that is “a revival”, it is not revival. We can gather together and plan to have a meeting with God, but if we are not in revival personally, it is not true revival. Revival starts in our hearts. It starts in our personal prayer closets. When we become desperate for God, desperate for our family to be saved, desperate for healing, desperate for our city to be changed, then we are ready for revival. God is looking for people who are desperate for Him.

When I think of revival the first thing that comes to mind is the early church in Acts. Acts 2:1-2 says, “When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.”

Before Jesus ascended to Heaven, He told His followers that the Holy Spirit was going to come to them, so they gathered, prayed, and waited. Waiting is not something we like to do. We want God to move when we think it is time, to the point where sometimes we are willing to “create” a move of God or a revival. But, wait we must. When the church of Acts waited, the Holy Spirit came to them and they were all filled. They became witnesses and thousands were added to the church daily.

Today, in America, we have an entire generation being wiped out because of abortion. Thousands of teenagers are becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol daily. The divorce rate is sky rocketing. We desperately need a move of God. If we are going to see change in our country, revival is a must.

It is going to start in you and me. As our team leader tells us, “You are a carrier of revival!” So, let’s get in our prayer closets, meet face to face with the Holy Spirit, and be filled so that we can carry the revival that our nation so desperately needs. To catch fire for God we must spend time with God. There are no short cuts to revival. We need to move from enjoying the flames of His fire to abiding in His fire, even when it’s uncomfortable, so that we are filled with His fire. Catch and carry this fire that makes all things new!

Revival, no matter how great or small in its ultimate scope, always begins with individual believers whose hearts are desperate for God, and who are willing to pay the price to meet Him.” - Del Fehsenfeld Jr.

I’M TOO BUSY!       By Team Member: Vickie Peterson

First, let me say Thank You for choosing me to be a part of Your Kingdom and for sending me out in to the world to declare Your name.  What an honor to be used by the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords!  You chose ME…of all people…you chose me…sometimes I can’t believe that you chose Me…

My prayers have been…send me…use me…hear me…and You did.  You heard and answered my prayers.  I remember reading in the Bible where Isaiah answered Your call saying, “Here am I, send me” and then crying out that same prayer to You.  You soon began opening up doors for me and placed people in my path that would assure my purpose.

So, why has my life become so busy now?  How do you balance work in the Kingdom and everyday life?  How do I remain effective? All of a sudden life comes rushing towards me at the speed of light.  There seems to be less time today than I had yesterday.  Yet there is more work to be done in Your Kingdom…so much more…The other day I kept passing a woman at a bus stop and felt impressed to stop and give her a bottle of water but I was too busy doing Kingdom work at the time and thought, "let me do this one thing and I will come back to her."  Of course, she was gone when I returned.  What you showed me later was that it was not a bottle of water that she needed but a drink of life giving water.  I was so busy that I missed the most important part of my mission that day.  I was in the area again another day and looked for her but she was not there.  I had been too busy with the minor details of Your Kingdom that I overlooked the purpose of Your Kingdom.

Also, what about prayer, fasting and reading the Bible?  I am so busy working for You that these things don’t get the attention that I once gave them.  Because of my now busy schedule, I yawn throughout my morning prayer time and ask for forgiveness…cause you know how busy I am doing Your work and that sometimes I run late getting into bed the night before.  Not to even mention the rushed Bible reading sessions that I manage to squeeze in and fasting, well, come on, I need to eat so that I will have strength to carry on my important mission.

Today I realized that the passion for my mission is now generated from my head instead of my heart.  I looked back at my mental “to do list” and I don’t recall seeing “seek the Lord” anywhere on it because that takes time and I am too busy.

Thank you Holy Spirit for continuing to whisper in my ear and reminding me that my mission is irrelevant without a daily communion with God…for showing me that without seeking, fasting and studying the Bible, it is all for naught…that the mission will soon become routine and rigorous and eventually, it will be consumed by the cares of life and that my purpose will just become another religious activity that will no longer produce a harvest.

Busyness Does Not = Spirituality

“Don’t for one second let the…bustle of religious activity, a surge of religious thinking fool you into thinking that there is a lot of spirituality…Actually, our craze for activity brings few enriching benefits into our Christian circles. If you look into [many churches], you will find groups of half-saved, half-sanctified, carnal people who know more about social niceties than they do about the New Testament…[It is a] never-ending squirrel-cage motion [that] gives the impression that much is being done, when actually nothing really important is ever happening and no genuine spiritual progress is being made. From such we must turn away. In an effort to get the work of the Lord done, we often lose contact with the Lord of the work and quite literally wear people out as well…[Activity alone] is not fellowship at all…The center of attraction in a true church is the Lord Jesus Christ. As for fellowship, let the Holy Spirit define it for us: ‘And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”  -- A.W. Tozer

Volunteers Needed to Serve in Assembly

Greetings!
The International Assembly is quickly approaching! We will gather at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville July 25-29 for a time of celebration. A successful Assembly requires God’s help and plenty of volunteers. Prayer is happening around the world for this Assembly and I feel confident that God’s presence will cover this event, but we still need plenty of volunteers. I am writing today to ask for volunteers to serve the Assembly as ushers.
An Usher’s duties include the distribution of information/programs, seating, providing directions, receiving the offering, security, and etc. If you would be willing to serve, you may contact Assembly Operations at ehartman@cogop.org or (423)559-5217. Even if you are unable to attend all of the Assembly, your service is needed for the days you will be in Louisville.
Please prayerfully consider serving in this Assembly. If you have any questions, please contact us at the email address or phone number above. I would like to say thank you to those who have served in previous Assemblies and invite you to join us again in Louisville. Feel free to forward this email to those you think might be interested.
Blessings!

Assembly 2012

PRAYER MARCH TOWARD THE ASSEMBLY CONTINUES
General Overseer on the Prayer "March" to Assembly

HowardSOMany have joined with the leaders of the International Office to march toward the Assembly in prayer. Each week the General Overseer's Prayer Council has met for prayer and each Wednesday at noon we are praying in the Upper Room of the International Office.

In addition to this the International Prayer Network has joined this ten week march, as well as many Face Book friends. I believe several thousand are seeking God together for glorious victory in this Assembly.

Join us on week number six as we pray over all the times of prayer that we will have in the Assembly. Each morning we will begin in prayer and in each evening session we will give a call for prayer also. The special healing service prayer will be significant, as well as the prayer calls given in Youth and Children's ministries.

Next week we will pray for all of our Assembly speakers and the following we will focus on the International Presbytery meeting before the Assembly.

Thank you for joining the march to cover this Assembly in prayer.

ASSEMBLY PRAYER 2012

CALL FOR ASSEMBLY PRAYER COVER ING

General Overseer Announces Prayer "March" to Assembly

HowardSOThere is excitement in the air around the International Offices as everyone has thoughts of the Assembly somewhere on their minds these days. There are under ten weeks remaining before delegates of the Church of God of Prophecy from all around the world will gather in Louisville, Kentucky for this very special meeting. Through this 'Connections' I would like to give a call for ten weeks of prayer cover for the International Assembly.

Everyone would love to see the presence of God descend on this Assembly working the glorious will of God among us. And most realize that prayer is the key to seeing that become a reality ten weeks from now. This week at the International Offices we are beginning ten weeks of prayer in the Upper Room each Wednesday at noon. This week the General Overseer's Prayer Council is beginning ten weeks of prayer sessions to cover the Assembly. The COGOP International Prayer Network has begun their Assembly prayers.

You are invited to join these church leaders in a ten-week prayer march toward our Assembly. Some will decide personally to make each Wednesday an Assembly prayer day. Some will make the Assembly a constant item on their daily prayer schedule. Some will join with others at church or in prayer groups this ten weeks. In any way that God may inspire, you are invited to join us for these ten weeks, covering the International Assembly of the Church of God of Prophecy with prayer that God will pour out blessings from heaven to empower us in Harvest ministry.

Ladies' Retreat 2012

May 19th closed one of the best Ladies' Retreats in history.  Director Donna Howard was at her best in preparing and spiritually directing the 183 ladies that came from all over the state for this annually event.

We were blessed and overjoyed to have Dr. Tom Renfroe and his wife Sid to be our conference speaker.  What a soul stirring ministry they have as shared with us the lost of their only son and the miracle healing of Dr. Renfroe.  Each one pictured themselves in their situations and how their faith has sustained them.  Their experiences let us all know that whatever the enemy throws in our path we can be victorious, and an over comer through the blood of Jesus.  Their testimony of faith will be remembered for a long time to come.

Several ladies from different churches took on the project of decorating the tables for the Friday night banquet.  It is always interesting to see the many designs that they come up with based on the Retreat Theme.  Our Ladies are very talented!

Each lady left this retreat with joy and uplifted, ready to return home to their place of ministry.  We were challenged by the Renfroes to become bold witnesses.  I believe Alabama Ladies are up to that challenge.  YES WE ARE!!
