On April 15, near the finish line of the Boston Marathon in Boston, Massachusetts, two bombs were detonated, killing three people and injuring more than 170. The Church of God of Prophecy International Offices has received word from area presbyters who shared prayers and support for the victims.
Bishop Samuel N. Clements, General Presbyter of North America, writes: Our hearts have been saddened this week with the tragedy of the senseless act of violence that happened at the finish line of the Boston Marathon this past Monday. Once again innocent lives were lost and many sustained critical injuries; and, for many families, life will never be the same. Our members and friends of the Church of God of Prophecy in North America have been touched with a heart of prayer for the many victims of that day that God’s grace would sustain every individual who has felt the impact of this heinous crime.
I wanted to share with you the words of thanksgiving and praise to God along with concern that has been received from our presiding bishops of the Northeast Spanish and English regions as both of these regions have congregations in the city of Boston:
“Praise the Lord, I have been in contact with all the pastors of the Boston MA area and they informed me that none of our members of our churches have been affected by the tragedy that occurred this afternoon in the marathon in the city of Boston. We thank our God that nothing happened to our members.”
—Bishop Rahadames Matos, Overseer, Northeast Spanish Region
“We also are happy to report that no one in our Church families was injured by the bomb blasts in Boston on yesterday. We, the Church of God of Prophecy, Northeast Region USA & Bermuda express our heartfelt condolences, to the City of Boston and to the family's that were impacted by this tragic event.
“We pray for our President, Barack Obama, Governor Deval Patrick, Mayor Thomas Menino, a host of Boston City Officials, first responders (police, firemen, medical personnel) and citizens who in the wake of this tragedy must continue the daily routine of life.
“Join with me in praying the prayer that Jesus prayed:
‘I pray for them...those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. I am coming to you now, . . . My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen!’”
—Bishop Cervin McKinnon, Overseer, Northeast English Region
"May all of us continue to pray not only for North America, but for all of our people all around the world for protection and grace from an Almighty God!"
—Bishop Sam N. Clements, North America General Presbyter
