Philippines Typhoon Update |
Two weeks ago, the Philippines were hit with the Super-Typhoon Yolanda, which killed at least 5,235 with an additional 1,613 still listed as missing, according to the last government count. More than a million homes were destroyed or damaged, including some of our churches. If you would like to make a donation to help, click here.
Here are some reports from Bishop Roger Justiano, National Overseer of the Philippines.
As National Overseer of the Church of God of Prophecy, Philippines, in behalf of my family and our people, let me express my warmest gratitude and appreciation for all the help extended by the International Office, Harvest Partners, local churches in the US, local members, friends and everyone who helped our churches and brethren and the victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). During those trying days, your prayers, message of encouragement, concerns, love, personal notes and messages really meant so much to us. We appreciate very much those who dropped some words of encouragement. Your prayers, moral and financial support will not be forgotten. May the Lord bless you, your family, work, business, ministry, as you responded to the need.--Bishop Roger D. Justiniano
A day after Super-Typhoon Yolanda (local name) land fell, the wide-spread devastation is just heartbreaking as news updates are beginning to come a midst power outages. The grim reality of the typhoon's strength is slowly unfolding as reports are coming in from the severely affected areas. The Philippine Red Cross estimated 1,200 casualties. Our church brethren from Panay, Romblon, and Mindoro are along the path of the typhoon. Please pray for our brethren and for the Filipino people who are affected with loss of lives, properties, agriculture and business.--Bishop Roger J
It took us a while to receive a report from our district overseer from Panay to give us an idea about the extent of damages among our church family since the cell sites in the area are down. He has to drive several towns just to get a signal to send his messages to us. Most of our church people's houses were damaged. Our church in Bacong was totally destroyed; in San Antonio, we lost several of the roof tin sheets; in Culasi, we lost the extended parts of the church building; in Buenavista, the cottage that the Work Team used this year during the construction of the church was destroyed. Praise God that there was no loss of lives among our church family according to the district overseer.
After several days of confusion and the seeming unpreparedness of the authorities to respond, the relief operations and help coming from different sectors and countries are beginning to pour in. Our fellowmen who were directly hit by the storm are receiving some relief goods, but other areas who were battered with same magnitude are also calling for help. This is part of the challenges the rescuers are facing since several islands of the archipelago were also badly hit.
Presently, our church is focusing on helping our church family in Antique, Panay where 4 of our churches were damaged and houses of our members were lost or destroyed. According to our pastor in Bacong church, members are just meeting in a tent now after their church was totally destroyed. Our Women's Ministry Directress, Sister Salvie, and Sister Luz are now on the their way to bring some food and assess the damages and move to the next stage of our help--building and repairing church building and houses of our members. We want to help as many as we can do, but with the fund that we have, we need to focus in with the churches and members. Anyway, the authorities are now helping the people in general who are affected by the typhoon.

HYDRATE TOUR: Fall Update
REVIVAL GATHERING:
This will be our last revival gathering of 2013. We have experienced the power and presence of God in each of these sessions. Fresh fire continues to fall as the hungry gather. There are still those who believe revival can become a lasting reality in our day. We cannot and will not let up. There is way too much at stake. This nation is hanging in the balance and the only solution is a Burning Church! Please join us Sunday evening, November 24th as we present our 3rd Fire & Fragrance service. This will be a time of intense worship and intercession. If we call, He will answer!

Lucas Englebert: Commissioned by the Master
Lucas Englebert, born and raised in the Woodland Hills
COGOP, is presently the first ever COGOP youth to ever be enrolled in the
Birmingham Metro Master’s Commission program, hosted by Kingwood Assembly of
God in Alabaster. The Master’s
Commission is a Pentecostal, world-wide international discipleship and training
program preparing young people for ministry, missions, and Christian
leadership.
A partial scholarship was awarded to Lucas by Master’s
Commission in honor of the late Mike Mojica, a groundbreaking Pentecostal
minister and missionary. This
scholarship will be offered every year by Birmingham Metro Master’s Commission
to a young person from the Church of God of Prophecy in Alabama in honor of
Pastor Mojica.
Lucas Englebert has been an excellent representative of
Christ in Master’s Commission this past year, and is embarking on his second
year beginning in September. Lucas is
earning college credit from Ecclesia College while attending Master’s Commission,
and can hopefully be instrumental in opening up the Master’s Commission program
to more young people from the COGOP.
Mark Sims, director of the Birmingham MC program said,
“We are so
proud of Lucas and of his contribution to Master’s Commission.
Lucas has
leadership potential that must be tapped and brought out to be used
in the
kingdom of God. Perhaps Lucas Englebert
is part of the future of youth
discipleship in the COGOP.”
Master’s Commission will be glad to come to any Alabama
church with Lucas and a team of on-fire youth to do ministry in any
church. Also, college age youth who are
interested in college AND discipleship training at the same time can contact
BMMC at bmmc@kingwooodchurch.com.

The Can’t Miss Cure for Biblical Illiteracy
I have good news, and I have bad news.
The Bad News: It’s been said over and over again that we are facing an immense problem of biblical illiteracy in our churches and amongst our youth.
The Good News: We have a surefire cure for this dilemma.
Do you remember what you were taught in Sunday school? I do.
I was raised in Sunday school. Each week my teacher would pull out her curriculum and teach us about the next Bible truth or story. Those lessons came from a planned, dated curriculum that enabled me to have an excellent, balanced diet of biblical truths. This is the type of biblical teaching we believe in at White Wing Publishing House and One Accord Resources.
Our HeartShaper material is set up for ages 0-12. From our curriculum, your children receive a balanced diet of biblical truth that enables them to know and understand God and the Bible thoroughly by their early teen years. Our curriculum is planned out years in advance, and each quarter and topic builds on the previous quarter and topic. In fact, you can check out BRAND NEW samples of all our Heartshaper material for FREE by simply clicking on this link.
http://whitewingbooks.com
Once you get to the website just click on the HeartShaper picture on the left side of the screen. Then click "Add to Cart" and go through the normal checkout process. You will be emailed a link to download the file.
If you’re wondering how to go about curing the dilemma of biblical illiteracy, the answer is quite simple really—start teaching the Bible in a planned way rather than haphazardly. Give your children a balanced diet. Help them move from milk to meat. One Accord Resources does much of the work for you.
One Accord Resources: the cure for biblical illiteracy.

Sheffield native struck by lightning
A Sheffield native is recovering in an Opelika hospital after lightning struck him in the chest Saturday.
Jake Blackstock, who turned 24 Sunday, was fishing in the Opelika area when the strike happened, his mother, Cheryl Blackstock, said. Doctors expect a full recovery, she said.
Jake Blackstock, an Auburn University graduate and wildlife biologist for the university’s School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, was at East Alabama Medical Center on Monday, his mother said. Doctors expected to be able to release him, depending on the latest lab results.
Cheryl Blackstock and her husband, Noah Blackstock, have been staying at the hospital with their son since the incident occurred. She said doctors told them their son is fortunate to have survived.
“They ran a lot of tests about his heart because he was directly hit in the chest,” she said. “They said if it had been 1-2 inches a little lower, it would have gotten his heart directly. We fully give God credit for protecting him and keeping him safe.”
She said Jake Blackstock told her it was raining, but not hard, when he was on his boat on a lake.
“The sky had gotten just a little bit dark,” Cheryl Blackstock said. “He never heard any thunder, never saw a flash of light or anything. The next thing he knew, he woke up in the middle of the boat. He doesn’t know how long he was unconscious.”
She said he called her while in the boat. “He told me he didn’t know what had happened, but something was wrong,” she said. “We live hours away in Sheffield, so you can imagine our panic.”
She is thankful he didn’t fall out of the boat. “He could have fallen in the water but landed in the boat.”
Jake Blackstock still has a great deal of back pain and also is hurting in his chest, Cheryl Blackstock said.
The hair on his chest was burned.
“Considering what could have been, he seems to be doing well,” she said. “All of his heart tests came back very good.”
Physicians did an electrocardiogram and blood work on Jake Blackstock. They also saw the streak and noticed his blood pressure, which usually runs low, was high, Cheryl Blackstock said.
“All of that told them it was a lightning strike,” she said.
Jake Blackstock doesn’t remember much about Saturday night and Sunday, his mother said Monday.
He was somewhat confused Sunday and kept asking if he was at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield. He had what doctors called “cardiac confusion,” which caused temporary short-term memory loss, but that condition seemed to be going away.
“He’s much more with it today,” she said. “His memory is much better.”
She said the lightning left a streak that runs down his trunk to his left hip, where the bolt left his body.
“He has a jagged mark, almost like a lightning bolt looks,” Cheryl Blackstock said. From Times Daily
