Pastor and Spouse Conference

January 20-21 weekend brought together 136 pastors and spouses for a time of worship, ministry and fellowship. Bishop Jones chose the theme "Iron Sharpens Iron" (Proverbs 27:17).

Dr. James Earl Massey was our guest speaker again this year. Words cannot describe how we are so honored and happy to sit under his teaching and preaching. He has won a special place in all the hearts of the Alabama Ministry.

Also, honoring us with their presence was Bishop Sam Clements and his wife Linda. And of course, we feel we can not have a conference without the presence of Dr. H. E. Cardin. These add so much fun and spirituality to our conference.

This weekend was truly a time to reflect on what has been but then to look to what is to come. We left with a greater zeal to be used by God in our appointed area of ministry.

Season of Seeking FINAL WEEK begins SUNDAY

This week I want to encourage you to press on to the end of this wonderful 21-Day Season of Seeking. Many of you are already experiencing divine visitations from heaven. After two weeks of prayer and fasting I know God's grace is rising among you. Now this final week we can cap this prayer season off with glorious victory and faith in what our God is going to do for us.

Paul said to the Corinthians, "But Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ"(1 Corinthians 15:57)! And in the next breath he says, "Therefore my beloved brothers be steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, foras much as you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Let's pray through this week in faith, perseverance, and victory!
Our final Core Value focus for prayer is Leadership Development.
Many know that this ministry has multiplied to become four times greater in the last 20 years. With growth like that, the mandate for developing leadership is very clear.

Pray with me that God will raise up leaders among us in every nation.
Pray the prayer objective Jesus taught us, "Pray therefore the Lord of the Harvest that he would send forth laborers into his harvest" (Matthew 9:38).

Pray for renewal of the call to disciple, mentor, and raise up leaders in this body. Mmay every pastor feel God's call to work with and develop a Timothy beside him.

Let's bless every ministry that is working now to strengthen leadership around us. Mention specifically the Center for Biblical Leadership , the Tomlinson Center, School of Practical and Advanced Studies, Youth Ministry raising up youth leaders, Children's Ministry raising up childrens ministers and so many more...

As we look around the world to pray for our brothers and sisters, this week we will pray for the regions of Central America, South America and Europe.
Call out these three General Presbyters by name, Ben Feliz (Central America), Gabriel Vidal (South America), and Clayton Endecott (Europe, CIS, and the Middle East).

Pray for the national leaders and national ministries in these regions, as well as local church pastors.

Pray for supply of needed resources in funds, leaders, buildings, vision and more.

Pray for all of the nations included here to see where God is at work and to run to join him in the open door of outreach in their lands.

As this week comes to a close I hope that you will have a time to rejoice in faith for what God is going to do in answer to your prayers. Perhaps it will be like Jesus standing before the tomb of Lazarus saying, "Father I thank you for what you are going to do." Or it might be more emotional as Joshua commanded the people on the seventh day to "shout for the Lord has given us the city" (Joshua 6:16).

In some way I encourage you to express your faith and expectation that God has heard your cries and His answers are on the way right now.

Season of Seeking WEEK TWOBegins SUNDAY

John Wesley said, "God does nothing on earth, except in answer to prayer." If that is the case then God is sending grace from heaven to activate his people to pray. He has chosen to limit his acts on earth to the prayers his church will pray. He is expecting the church to rise up and call on his name. And he is anxiously waiting so that he can leap into action sending down mighty help for his church to move powerfully in his anointing. So church, let's pray and see the release of all that God wants to do among us.

This week our Core Value prayer target is the Harvest. We have four points of focus in our Vision 2020 projections for Harvest and we must pray over these this week.

First let's pray for church planting to expand greatly in our ministries. It has been proven that this is the greatest means of evangelization possible.
Second pray that local churches will develop into strong ministries that reach out into their communities.

Third pray for the greatest harvest field in the world, the Young Harvest. They are the most receptive and the most abundant, so we must target them.

Finally pray for new zeal for the world mission portion of the Great Commission.

Pray that every church and every member will receive inspiration to further the world spread of the gospel. This week we want to pray for Asia and Oceania as one region of our ministries

Pray for China outreach that the Kingdom of God would expand powerfully in this largest nation of the world, and the largest revival nation of the world.

Pray for the largest muslim nation of the world, Indonesia. Our ministries there are experiencing growth so ask God to bless them even more.

Pray for India the second largest nation in the world and the great Christian growth going on there. Pray that hindus would experience salvation in Christ in mass.
Bless our leadership in this land, our General Presbyter, Bishop David Browder, our national eladers, and local pastors.

This week unite in prayer for the United States and Canada also.
Pray that This wonderful nation that has blessed the world will now experience a great fresh awakening herself. Pray for our leadership here, General Presbyter, Bishop Sam Clements, our Regional/State Bishops, and local pastors

Pray God will bring inspired insight for evangelization in new ways to reach a new generation here in America.

Pray for a touch of 2 Chronicles 7:14 to come on the churches and believers of the land

Hydrate Tour

We want to reach the youth of this nation and the best place to reach them is where they spend most of their time, in school. Since 2008 we have been able to go to 11 High Schools across Alabama. We would do a night event full of energy with rock bands, rap artists, dramas, and a Gospel presentation. In 2010 God opened a door for us to be able to go into the schools and do an in school assembly. We present a positive message through dramas, skits, testimonies, and music. We invite the students and the rest of the community to the night event where the message continues along with the presentation of the Gospel. This tour is ground breaking and God has opened doors and broken ground for His Word to enter back into our public schools.Coming up February 23, we will be going to St. Clair County High School where we will have the opportunity to minister to over 500 students and faculty. Please be much in prayer for this event that hearts and lives will be forever changed.

Awaken TourAwaken.......... is designed to minister to the church and awaken the sleeping giant. Here in America, most Christians are not living up to their full potential, and through Awaken, God is changing that. Churches host the Awaken team for a night full of thrown room worship, life changing dramas, and radical messages. This year the theme is Believe. SEASON OF SEEKING WEEK ONE

Jesus said, My house shall be called of all nations a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves" (Luke 19:46).

Jim Cymbala says, "The provocation was really this, misunderstanding the purpose of the temple, my father's house. It should be a house of prayer and you have made it a den of thieves. The atmosphere of the house should be prayer. The aroma of people coming to God in petition, supplication and worship is key. But you have made it a place to make money. The atmosphere should be prayer. No matter where you are from and what culture, this is God's idea, not yours for your culture.
That temple was the only place where the holy of holies could be. But today we are the temple of God's holiness. Yet the house of God's people must always have the aroma of prayer. Music, yes, choirs, yes, teaching yes, but always house of prayer in the fathers house."

The Christian church was launched while people were praying in Acts 2, waiting on God in prayer. The Spirit was poured out on the praying church. When persecuted and threatened, the church did not protest but they went and prayed, seeking God's help. When anything happened to them, their first response was to pray. It was so deep in them that when Paul was converted, God sent Ananias. He was afraid but God told him Paul was praying in his blind state. This was a sign of validity.

And when Paul wrote to Timothy, he said first of all there should be "prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving." This was his priority teaching to Timothy in starting the church. He then went on to say "men everywhere should be lifting hands in prayer."

In the book of Revelations, the 24 elders have bowls filled with incense which are the prayers of the saints. So precious to God are these prayer that he keeps them in bowls.

So this week keep in your mind that we are joining together to make God's house a house of prayer, we God's people are becoming a movement of prayer.

21 Days of Prayer

For the sixth year, I am calling the Church of God of Prophecy to a 21-Day Season of Seeking in the early days of this coming New Year. For 21 days, we will be devoting our efforts and focus to seeking God in the Church of God of Prophecy.

Many will be praying with us through this 21-day season from many nations around the world. Many will be fasting at times through this season, and others will be fasting the entire time with us. As people fast, there will be some on an entire fast, some on a partial fast, some on a Daniel fast and no doubt a variety of other fasts.

But all together we are devoting these days at the beginning of the New Year to pray; praying for God to help us do his will and build his kingdom in great and effective ways this year.

Church of God of Prophecy, I welcome you to join in this marvelous opportunity to start the New Year in a focused "Season of Seeking" in unity with thousands of your brothers and sisters. Each week we will have general prayer directives that we can all unite around and lift up to heaven together. And as we pray through these 21 days I know God will hear us from heaven. I know God will honor His great promise, "Call unto me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and mighty things that you do not know."

I invite you to join in this Season of Seeking this January.

SIDEWALK PROPHETS
The Sidewalk Prophets are an unlikely group of poets, musicians, and fun-lovers who have been brought together by the blood of Jesus Christ to share the hope, faith, tragedy, and love that is the reality of Christianity. For over seven years the Sidewalk Prophets have been traveling across the United States and overseas sharing the redeeming love of Jesus Christ. They are a dynamic songwriting duo comprised of college dorm-mates-turned-best-friends, David Frey and Ben McDonald. Frey is equipped with an amazing vocal range and a distinct, soulful voice that is full of engaging passion. McDonald brings an undeniable drive and passion for writing songs that will engage both churched and unchurched listeners.

The band has been on the road for the past four years playing more than 125 shows a year worldwide. They've been making thousands of friends and fans in the process. Along the way, the band has achieved some longtime goals of playing with bands they admired as teenagers. The band has had the honor of sharing the stage with acts like Jeremy Camp, Audio Adrenaline, Stellar Kart, Building 429, and Ginny Owens, as well as many others.

The Sidewalk Prophets main focus is to make people feel comfortable being who God has created them to be. Young people today, more than ever, have the task of living in a world that places so much value on fitting in and achieving the perfect image. The band travels with the slogan "Image is nothing...love is everything." Dave from the Sidewalk Prophets explains the bands vision like this, "We have traveled all over the United States working with young people and there is one resounding problem we see. The problem is that our young people are being pressured to live up to the world's standard of success. The world is selling the idea that image is everything but we know that the only way this can be true is by helping God's children, young and old, realize that an image molded after Christ is the only image worth striving for."

The Sidewalk Prophets have had appeal not only to young people but to their parents and grandparents as well. Their musical palette includes an eclectic group of influences from past to present, which allows the band to connect with almost anyone who listens. Their sound is a melting pot which culminates into an original blend of acoustic rock music. Their shows bring the depth of a singer/songwriter and the energy of a rock & roll band.

In June 2007, the band packed their bags and headed south to Nashville, Tennessee, in hopes of expanding their platform to do other types of ministry.

General Overseer Shares His "Dreams"

This week, the General Presbyters and Assembly Committees gathered at the International Offices in Cleveland for their annual Fall Meetings. This time of prayer, dialogue, and planning helps set the course for ministry throughout the year and provides opportunity for leadership to address the urgent needs of our global movement.

On Wednesday, October 19, General Overseer Randall Howard presented his "State of the Offices" address to the General Presbyters, Assembly Committees, and International Office staff. "This time of sharing has developed as a way to let leadership in the Church of God of Prophecy (COGOP) know where my mind and heart are so that they would better understand my actions and directives," said Bishop Howard during his opening statements. He continued, "It has evolved into a benchmark moment each year where we ask ourselves 'where have we come from, where are we, and where are we going?' It is good to keep these things in view as we walk along, otherwise we may find we are only taking a walk and in time we may find we have compassed this mountain long enough..

Bishop Howard shared four "dreams" that he and the General Presbyters have identified as they continue to pray about the church's future and implement Vision 2020 into their respective areas. These dreams, as outlined in the presentation were:

We dream of the financial polity of this network being implemented in every nation of ministry.
We dream of Leadership Development, building an integrated model to develop spiritually inspired ministerial leadership throughout the COGOP so that the International Offices will one day arrive to the place that our main product is Leadership Development
We dream that our Vision/Mission/Core Values will become a matrix for the calling, identity, leadership and strategic action of this movement in the next ten years.
We dream that this movement will become a mighty movement of prayer.

"Today is the day to dream the dreams of God and to walk toward the realization of those dreams by faith." said Bishop Howard. "This church has stepped out to declare that God is still giving dreams and visions. We have stepped out to proclaim that we are willing to move in faith to be dream chasers, Running after the glory of God at the end of everyone of His dreams and visions. Remember, eye has not seen nor ear heard neither has entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for them that love him, but God has revealed them unto us by his spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, yes the deep things of God. Our former General Overseer Brother Murray spoke His dream and God's heart into this body when he said the greatest days of the Church of God of Prophecy are yet to come. We join that dream declaration. God's glory will ever increase on earth and we his people will move with Him to see that day come."

September 14-17, seventy-five people drove from all over the state to enroll in the Second Term School of Practical and Advanced Studies for Center for Biblical Leadership. They were not disappointed as qualified teachers taught them under the anointing of the Holy Ghost.

We were so honored to have Dr. Hector Ortiz and his wife Dolly in attendance along with Bishop Adrian Varlack and Bishop Mark Menke. These made up the staff for this great gathering.

Everyone left saying they could not wait until the Third Term.

Above are some pictures of the project for Sister Faye Lolley. As you remember, Sister Lolley lost everything in the April tornadoes that went through Hackleburg. Alabama ladies came together to assist her in getting her furnishing for her new house back together.

Sister Lolley was overwhemed at the love that was shown her. Below she writes:

Haiti Update

Dear Friends,
I am writing to give you a report of my last mission trip to Haiti from January 8-22. I was accompanied by four teams. I had one group each from Eastern Canada, Montana/Wyoming, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina with the total being twenty adults. The twenty were very diverse consisting of four pastors, one overseer, one youth pastor, two ladies, one architect, and a variety of other backgrounds.

I am thankful to be able to report that after four months that the wall around the orphanage has been completed which includes the sea wall portion. When I first went to the orphanage a few months ago, it was overrun with goats and community people walking through the property at will. There was no sense of security at all. Now that the wall has been completed, the environment is much improved, and there was a sense of peace in the whole place. Also, the new generator has been hooked up, water is being pumped from the well, and the school is operational. We have approximately forty-six children back on the property and another one hundred and fifty attending the school on the property. GAIN had also purchased a relatively new Ford pickup truck that I was able to use while there.

Our first church building project this trip was a church building in DuFort. This building was for a thriving congregation which was worshipping under a tarp. We welded steel angle iron together, made T-posts, and set them in concrete. We braced them and made steel trusses and placed them on the walls. We then ran the lathe and attached the metal roof by special screws that we had transported from the states. The building was approximately 34 feet wide and 60 feel long. When I left, I ordered and had delivered the materials to begin building the block walls that will fill the spaces between the posts.

The second project was in Grand Gove. This church was on a narrow piece of land between two buildings, and it was 21 feet wide and about 74 feel long. This construction was not as conductive for steel construction so I purchased treated (insect and rot resistant) lumber and built frame walls and wooden trusses, and then we attached metal roofing. The ladies of this church worked with sledge hammers, picks, shovels, and wheel barrows to the point that we were simply amazed.

In short, both churches turned out to be beautiful structures of which both congregations were very proud. The people who went with me seemed thrilled with the whole experience and have already begun talking about going again next year. In fact, some are talking about going again in just a month or two.

I should also report that on the last Friday of January 21, that we visited the only pastor that we still have living in a tent. The brethren from Canada wanted to buy a piece of land to build him a house. They authorized the purchase of a lot that we were shown.

I am taking another group to work at the orphanage and in the surrounding churches in February. I have pasted some pictures below.

These are some of the emails that have been coming in. Dr. Massey and Dr. Cardin blessed us so much this pass weekend.

Dr. Massey taught three pastoral lessons with Dr. Cardin's message closing the retreat. Someone said of Bishop Cardin, "He put the icing on the cake".

We left feeling blessed of God and ready to forge ahead in our ministry of Pastoral Care.

Update: Bishop John Doroshuk

Bishop John Doroshuk was able to spend a few days home from the hospital to be with his family over the holidays. He fights a daily battle with the tumor on his brain, but continues in steadfast faith, sharing always of the joy of the Lord

Please continue to remember Bishop John, his wife Ruth and their ever present and caring family during this time. Europe, the CIS and the Middle East continue to fast and pray for his healing and we with the family ask the church and friends to continue praying in faith.

Pursuing His Spirit

I would like to announce to you that for the fifth time I am calling the Church of God of Prophecy to begin the New Year with 21 days of prayer and fasting. We have referred to this time as our Season of Seeking. Let me share why I feel impressed to declare this call another time throughout the Church of God of Prophecy. There is clearly a God-breathed movement of prayer stirring in the world today, and I want the Church of God of Prophecy to participate and experience all that God has for those who will join Him there. Coming from our International Assembly with our theme "Pursuing His Spirit," I feel deeply that a "Season of Seeking" such as this gives all of our churches, leaders,and people an opportunity to be involved. The needs and opportunities before us as a worldwide ministry are great and I feel our only real recourse is to seek God for His strength to achieve all He has placed before us. And, finally, dedicating the first days of the New Year to calling on the name of the Lord is the best way I can think of to start the fresh New Year God has given us with eyes toward Him, ears open to Him, and hearts hungry for Him.

We at the International Offices invite all of our leaders, churches, and people to join in this Season of Seeking in any level of participation they feel is best. Fasting is always a personal conviction if it is to be of maximum benefit to anyone. Many will be fasting completely through these first 21 days of the year.

Others are certainly free to give themselves to prayer all of these days and to fast in the method they feel would be best for them. We feel the Lord is honored in a call to this 21-Day Season of Seeking, and each person's response at any level will only add to our unity in prayer and seeking God. I know that you will help us to spread the word to all of our churches about this opportunity to fast and pray. Elba Church Gets New Pastor

November 14th, Avena Lewis was appointed and installed as the new pastor for Elba Church of God of Prophecy. She will take the place of Pastor Harless Buckner who wanted to retire.

The church welcomed Sister Lewis with opened arms. She is a member there and has worked along side them for years.

The church is very happy that Brother and Sister Buckner will remain as members.

Bishop John Doroshuk

We received a report from a family member that Bishop John Doroshuk is not doing well. " He was admitted into the hospital yesterday and doctors do not believe he will be leaving it this time. He has been bedridden for about 2 weeks and has needed 24/7 care by the family. Unless God heals John...we are going to loose him soon." This family is in need of your prayers. Brother Doroshuk has completely dedicated his life to the Lord and His work.

Bishop Hubert Vicars' Passing

This morning around 5:45 Bishop Hubert Vicars went home to be with the Lord. Bishop Vicars was the Former State O verseer of Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, South Carolina, Alabama and East Texas. He also pastored several churches in FL. MI, GA, TN and NC. His last pastorate was the Hillsdale church (Bridge of Hope) in Greensboreo, NC. Bishop Vicars and his wife Betty have been residing in his son's home (Dale and Keitha) for the past few years. Please pray for Betty, Dale and all of the family.

Bishop Vicars visitation is schedule Monday night, November 22, 2010, from 6:30-8:00 and the furneral service Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at 1:30 PM. The visitaion and funeral service will be held at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, 6710 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC.

Fields of the Wood

October is always a special month for tourists/visitors to the Fields of the Wood --due to the beautiful Fall colors of the leaves.

Last weekend was a big time for us here at the Park--a beautiful wedding took place at the large altar, with the reception held on the cafe patio. It was a formal affair.

Two large charter buses brought 100 people from a church in Atlanta, plus all other church vans, R.V.s, pickups, cars and motorcycles. The large church group came early and stayed all day, having devotions at different areas of the park, and eating in the cafe. Youth groups come, Seniors, families, and many church groups.

People are being saved--it's amazing when they walk up the steps to the altar, the time they spend in reading all the scriptural markers. One day Wayne was walking up to the altar and he looked and was touched by what he saw--many little children kneeling at the altar. Lives have been changed when people come thru our gates. Several days ago a large bus with a youth group came and we had reserved tables for them--upon their arrival, Jenna met them and heard them speaking in a language she did not understand. She asked one of the leaders where they were from? He said, "Some are from Belarus, the Ukraine, Russia, and I'm from Estonia." There were 35 young people and they loved the Fields of the Wood! One of them said "We're going to bring back hundreds--you have been so nice to us." God's presence is felt greatly by all who come! We always hear, "God Bless America!" I say, "God Bless the Fields of the Wood!"

S.O.P.A.S At Camp Boothe

September 15th the camp site was roaring with excitement as students from all over the state and four from Tennessee gathered for four days of teaching from Dr. Hector Ortiz, Bishop Mark Menke and Bishop Adrian Varlack. They were not disappointed as these teachers taught with anointing and shared from their heart. Each one left with excitement about being a member and minister in the Church of God of Prophecy. Some made the statement "They wish it could go on and planning to attend the one next year".

Wow! What an awesome day yesterday at WCFC!!

From the very first opening prayer tot he last amen the presence of God was upon us. You know without the anointing we're not much anyway. Three years in the making and we now have a local Church of God of Prophecy in Winfield, Alabama. Praise the Lord!!

What a very humbling experience for Sister Joan and I to have crossed this milestone in our life. That our God would choose little ol' us to be a part of something so big as planting a church for Him.

We were so honored to have our local Area Presbyter John B. Butler, the State Overseer L. V. Jones and the North American Presbyter Sam Clements with us for this momentous occasion.

The Praise and Worship Team did an outstanding job leading us into the worship that the Lord so deserves. We are so blessed with the talent on this team.

Enough can't be said about the Leadership we have here in the state. It's a privilege to serve under the leadership of Bishop Jones.

Bishop Jim Williams represented Pastor Brian Sutton and Cliff Haven (Sheffield). This church truly hears from the Lord. Early on during the plant these wonderful brothers and sisters partnered with us through offerings. I might add this kept us afloat during some very lean times. And once again yesterday the Cliff Haven church came bearing gifts of a donation for $1,000.00. Thank you Pastor Sutton and Cliff Haven, we love you.

Bishop Clements brought an outstanding message/word. He preached out of Acts 20:32. What a timely word to build us up. Brother Clements also came bearing gifts a check for $3,000.00. Wow what a day! These monies will be applied to the purchase price of property located on Highway 129 just north of Winfield and off of I 22. One day our goal is to erect a church building on this property that you will very proud of. I would also like to mention that Bishop Clements is calling for every member in North American to donate just one dollar to go toward the planting of new churches across North America. He told me yesterday if only half the membership in the U.S. would have given to this project, he could have written us a check for $50.000.00. My prayer is that we members in America get behind this.

After the message we then went into conference and formally organized the church. I still like the old term "we set her forth".

I am still rejoicing over the 23 members we accepted yesterday. Already several others have approached with a desire to become part of this family.

Great things are ahead! I'll leave you with what Bishop Clements said to us "Think big, very big"

The Church of God of Prophecy is firmly committed to providing a safe, loving environment for the children and youth attending our churches, youth camps, and all ministry venues. The children and youth among us must have an environment free of sexual or physical abuse, and any violation of their well-being by a paid minister or volunteer must not be tolerated.

The Administrative Committee introduced a Child, Youth, and Worker Protection policy for the International Offices and for all levels of leadership in every church and ministry. The General Overseer's office, International Youth Ministries and Children's Ministries departments have assisted in the development and distribution of this policy which is available to all state/national/regional offices. This is not intended to be an optional policy for any level of leadership in the Church of God of Prophecy.

Hurricane Katrina-Churches Back And On Their Mission

Rev. Fred Luter, pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in east New Orleans, and Rev. Calvin W. Woods Jr., pastor of Greater Liberty Baptist Church in New Orleans, were both pastoring when Hurricane Katrina flooded their churches.

The massive flood created an exodus of biblical proportions from New Orleans. People scattered across the country. Since then, some are returning and rebuilding.

Franklin Avenue Baptist held services for two-and-a-half years at First Baptist Church of New Orleans, which had not been flooded in the storm. Luter's predominantly black congregation made many friends during its time sharing facilities with the predominantly white First Baptist. "It was a good testimony," Luter says. "A lot of good came out of it."

Before the hurricane, Franklin Avenue Baptist had 7,000 members attending three Sunday services. Attendance is back up to 3,500 at two services now, Luter says. The church moved back to its restored worship facility in April 2008.

Greater Liberty at 1230 Desire St. in the Upper Ninth Ward, was four to five feet deep in water after the hurricane. "We've been back and going strong," Woods says.

Before the hurricane, Greater Liberty had 600 to 800 members attending in two Sunday services. Now there's one service, with about 300 to 400 people.

"God has blessed us to recover and impact our community," Woods says. "We've restored houses, provided low rent in the community."

The neighborhood has struggled to overcome crime and joblessness, but the church has made a difference, he says.

"Before we got back, it was dreary and empty," Woods says. "It revitalized our community. If the church is present, it's a huge difference in that community. It's a social activity and spiritual development."

Woods said the Upper Ninth Ward is about 90 percent occupied, while the harder-hit Lower Ninth Ward remains about 90 percent unoccupied.

Greater Liberty Baptist and Franklin Avenue Baptist, which is in the Seventh Ward, are about two miles apart. Woods recently preached at Luter's church.

"God blessed both of us and brought us back." Woods says. "We saw God bring us through this situation, so we know he can bring us through any situation." (Excerpts from Birmingham News--Greg Garrison reporter)

Transition of International White Wing Messengers

Today the General Overseer's Office and Communications Department announced a number of transitions coming to the International White Wing Messenger Department of the Internatiional Offices.

Beginning January 2011, the White Wing Messenger (English) and International White Wing Messengers will merged into one department offering a single magazine translated into multiple languages.

For the past four years, the Administrative Committee has been seeking budget areas where the offices might "streamline" their functions to enable better stewardship of resources and harvest funding. The merger of these two departments is one area that will accomplish this and could result in an annual savings of nearly $100-$125,000.000 to the International Offices. In addition to the monetary savings, this merger will help unify the message of our printed magazines so that this "voice" of the International Offices is consistent in casting vision and promoting our core values.

Leading the White Wing Messengers will be DeWayne Hamby, current Publications Coordinator and Managing Editor of the White Wing Messenger (English). DeWayne came to the International Offices last April from Strang Communications, one of the leading Christian publishing companies where he served as Assistant Editor for Christian Retailing magazine. He is a Lee College (University) and Tomlinson College graduate, having majored in Communications with a minor in Bible with concentrations in Newswriting and Communications Theory and Research. DeWayne has been a life-long member of the Church of God of Prophecy, and has served a variety of international, state and local ministry positions, including Assistant Editor of the Church's youth magazine, Victory, for the International Youth Ministries Department.

Diana Garcia, current Editor for the International White Wing Messenger, will continue serving in her role until October 31, 2010. We applaud Diana and her leadership of the International White Wing Messenger Department. Diana's passion, drive, and enthusiasm have resulted in consistently excellent magazines that have touched ministry around the world.

Hanny Vidal, Assistant to the International White Wing Messenger Editor, will assist with the transition of the department until December 31, 2010. Hanny will be involved in assisting her husband, Bishop Gabriel Vidal who is presently transtioning to the office of South American General Presbyter.

As a result of this merger, White Wing Messenger subscribers can expect to see changes to the magazines, including greater diversity of international writers and for international subscribers, greater representation from the International Offices in the articles and information presented.

We are grateful for the advancements made to all versions of the White Wing Messenger, both English and International, over the past decade. We look forward to the future of these magazines as we launch into this new phase, which we anticipate to bring greater impact for the mission of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Tarrant's 50th Anniversary

Tarrant City Church of God of Prophecy celebrated 50 years of ministry Saturday, August 21, 2010. The church was organized in 1960 by Bishop Earl Sutton.

There were many families present representing their loved ones that were members in the years when the church began. These may have died and gone to

their

reward but they have not been forgotten by the Tarrant church.

Bishop Phil Smith and wife Peggy came from North Carolina to represent their father Hubert Smith. Also, Emmett and Doris Reese were there to speak for their father Bishop B. A. Reese. These were some of the former pastors that served this church well.
Overseer L. V. Jones commended this body of believers for all the hard work and labor that has gone into providing this community with the Gospel of Christ.

Under the leadership of Pastor Judy Lyles and her husband Robert this church is an example of what Christ would be doing if He were here today. Ministering and showing love to all people.

Playing By The Rules Is Not Legalism

To those of you who play golf, you must have been captivated by the results of the PGA championship played yesterday.

Dustin Johnson was leading the prestigious tournament by one stroke coming into the last hole of the event. The course was littered with more than 1,000 sand traps. On the 18th hole, he grounded his club (touched his club to the ground before swinging) in a questionable sand trap. But, alas, according to the rules, he was penalized two strokes and, rather than winning, he finished tied for fifth.

The point is, in spite of the disappointment, Johnson violated a rule of golf. It was not legalism, but it was a mistake in judgment that caused his failure.

In our roles as pastors-to-pastors, our team is constantly dealing with clergy persons who break the rules of effective ministry. Their misadventures are not played out before a national television audience, but, in time, will most likely be revealed. The Apostle Paul admonished, "In the sight of God...keep his commandments without spot or blame" (1 Tim. 6: 13, 14).

Man, did I ever feel for Dustin Johnson! But, in the end, he did ground his club in a sand trap and lost his chance to win a major golf tournament. You just can't blame it on legalism---in the end, he broke the rules.

As God's called-out men and women, we must play between the lines. When we venture outside, it will usually cost us. Paul says, "Watch your life closely" ( Tim. 4:16). The camera may not be watching, but the One on the throne who calls us is---and He wrote the "rule book."

Donna Howard just closed out a wonderful, Spirit-Filled Ladies Retreat. Sister Abernathy pastor from Ft. Payne was the speaker and gave an outstanding word. The attendance was down just a little due to several graduations but those attending were excited retreaters. The total count was 168. The theme was "Dressed To Be Blessed" from 6th chapter of Ephesians. There were 67 ladies that participated in the "Hat Parade". Gail Lowery, pastor's wife of Jasper was the winner. Brent and Anita Smalley are new to the state but not to the Fayette Church. Brent and Anita come to us from the Church of God, Dr. Culpepper General Overseer, and held license with the Church of God for some time. Sister Smalley's license recognizes her as a Minister of Music. She is very talented, has a band and a dynamic Sunday School Teacher. Brother Smalley is an excellent minister/pastor. Both of them are well known in that area. God led them to the Fayette Church of God of Prophecy over one year ago.

Chile Is Shaken

Earthquake Shakes Chile

Our country is trying to recover from a devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake that hit during the early morning hours on February 23 in the central area of Chile, leaving hundreds dead, two million injured and a million homes destroyed.

This is a catastrophe of enormous proportions, which impacted 80% of the population. I recall the last official report submitted by the National Office of Emergencies and Information (ONEMI) announced the number of victims to be above 708, a number that unfortunately is expected to continue to rise.

Due to these conditions, there are many areas that have encountered serious difficulties in reestablishing communication. For this same reason, locating our ministers, brothers and churches has been difficult.

We have been able to gather some information, concerning the situation and the status of our brothers throughout the country, progressively and mostly through social networks.

Thank God, at the moment, no one from our church is among the dead. Even so, we crave your prayers for the region of Maule, epicenter of the earthquake, which was later hit by a tsunami.

It is this region in particular which accommodated the delegates attending the South American leadership conference just a few months ago. We are currently unable to establish any form of communication with the 3 churches and 2 missions in the area.

Though it may be too soon to measure the damage our church buildings have suffered because this catastrophe, we have been informed that 60% of the roof of the national tabernacle has suffered significant damage; there is also structural damage to support beams and the pillars of the adjacent dormitories and the national office. Without a doubt, the material damages will require tremendous efforts and hard work ahead.

We thank our brothers at the International Offices for their prayers and the love shown through emails and messages.

We want you to know that we appreciate your support and we feel the effects of your prayers.

Though it is true that the great earthquake has passed, we have experience at least 90 aftershocks, 13 of these have reached magnitudes between 5.2 and 6.9 degrees. We ask that you keep our nation in your prayers, so that we may send reports with no great losses, and most importantly, without any loss of life. Your prayers are vital at this time.

We know nothing is impossible for God, and our nation remains united despite this great trial.

We will be relaying any new development as the information becomes available.

Above all, we thank God for His mercy and protection.

Surveying the Damage in Haiti..... by David Bryan

Ben Feliz, Kirk Rising, Dr. Michael Plumley, and myself went to Haiti on February 13th to see firsthand the devastation and connect with Bishop Dorlean, National Overseer, and the people of Haiti. We were able to visit with Brother Dorlean and share with him the love and concern of the global church for Haiti in this time of crisis. The needs truly are overwhelming. The children and staff from our orphanage were to be moved to the temporary building constructed by the team from the Dominican Republic on February 15th. There are number of short term needs we are working on:

Erecting a fence/wall around this property
Beds/cots/mattresses for 42 females
Larger and sturdier tent for the older boys
Electricity source (either a generator or solar)

We met with a group of about 30 pastors and district leaders who gave detailed reports about the extent of damage and loss of life. District overseer of the Miragoane and Goave area, Pastor Jean Robert Joseph, noted that five (5) church buildings were destroyed, along with 52 homes of members. Pastor Diejuste Sainvems of the Cote de Fer district, reported that 12 members had perished in the quake, which also collapsed eight (8) churches, and 800 members' homes. Pierre Richard Mirand, overseer of the Leogane district, shared that the earthquake claimed the lives of another 12 members, and brought down five(5) church buildings, and thousands of homes. Pastor Cineus Orimane died, leaving a widow and four children. The Plaine Cul de Sac district also suffered the destruction of nine (9) churches and 58 members' homes. The Port-au-Prince district was hard hit with 176 casualties among our members,including 100 from the headquarters church, eight churches flattened and more than 1,000 homes destroyed. The final report from district overseer Lionel Chery of Jacmel, noted that members lost 30 homes and five church buildings were severely damaged. Obviously, the impact of this earthquake on our people has been overwhelming. All of Haiti has been profoundly impacted. Recovery and rebuilding will be costly in time, energy, skill, and money. We need your help to restore Haitit.

Front Line Leadership Conference

The Front Line Leadership Conference held February 5 and 6 was attended by people from all over the state of Alabama and teachers from other states. There were 97 in attendance. The presence of the Lord permeated the weekend. The teachers were so anointed and prepared for their classes. Teachers from out of state were, Cathy and John Payne; TN, Larry Biggers ; GA Sandy and Kurt (and Jeremy) Knowles; NC. Alabama teachers were, Frances and Krameon Martin, Johnathon Pope, and Garry Lovett and the worship team. Friday evening was a great time of worship with Brother Garry Lovett leading us to the throne of God. Then Brother Terry Gann brought the rich Word to us. Oh! What a powerful worship time! A Shepherd Dies Serving in Haiti

District Overseer, Quinteria Rosario, eulogized Juan Sanchez as a man who died as he lived; serving others. Pastor Sanchez died on Saturday, January 30, apparently from a bacterial infection, shortly after returning from a humanitarian mission to help build a temporary home for the 68 orphans from the Church of God of Prophecy's orphanage in the quake-ravaged Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. Sanchez, 63, a faithful Church of God of Prophecy pastor in the Dominican Republic was a member of a team of 13 people who went into Haiti on a mission of mercy and love. The entire Church of God of Prophecy family around the world mourns the passing of Brother Sanchez and wraps its arms of condolence and care around his wife (who also accompanied him on the mission to Haiti), children, congregation, and friends. This stalwart man of God will be remembered as a one whose compassion and faithfulness led him to an plot of land in a devastated country where he worked to provide shelter to destitute children in a neighboring country. Surely, God's ways are mysterious. May His Name be praised.

The health authorities in the Dominican Republic has examined the other team members, who seem to be unaffected, and they are increasing their vigilance in screening individuals at the border for meningococcemia, an infection of the blood that can be transmitted by air.

Churches and Minister (currently)

So far we have lost 37 churches. Added to the 25 churches mentioned in earlier reports we have lost 8 local churches in the Cote-de Fer area )southwest of Por-au-Prince), 3 churches in Grand-Goave (includes the central church for the area), and 1 in Duvivier (Route neuve) just on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. All together, churches in four districts have been significantly affected. Two ministers have died, Deacon Marc Beauger (Mariani) perished along with his son and Pastor Orimane Cineus of the Duval church (newly constructed building) was also killed when his home collapsed.

Help received

The assistance provided by the leadership of the Dominican Republic in providing the building to house the children from the orphanage, relief supplies and medical attention has been wonderful. The two children from the orphanage who were hospitalized at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital are doing fine. Loveline's broken arm was set and is in a cast. She will have to undergo another surgery to remove the steel bars the doctors inserted. Carole has to undergo physical therapy for her back. She has to use crutches.

Beside the help that has been channeled through the Dominican Republic to Haiti, Brother Dorlean said he has received help from the Red Cross. They provided drinking water for the children. We are grateful that they set up a water purifier system for them at the temporary building where the children have been relocated.

The total impact of the quake on the Church of God of Prophecy is difficult to measure with more than 100 members perishing in the rubble, more than 250 homes of church members destroyed, 10 Church-operated school buildings ruined, hundreds of children orphaned and thousands of church members and their families affected.

A team from the Church's International Office will be traveling to Haiti on February 12th to meet with Bishop Dorlean, Haiti national overseer, and assess the current needs.

Temporary Building for Orphans Delivered
The team of brothers from the Dominican Republic delivered the pre-fab building to the site where the children from the orphanage have been relocated. Things got a bit tricky since the tractor trailer with the container could not be taken directly to the plot of land because the streets are so narrow. They had to unload the building and transport it to the construction sites. Leveling the ground also took more time and work than they expected but the building frame is up. When the structure is complete it will have 6 rooms, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. The work should be done so the children can move into the house by the end of this week. This house will be children's temporary home for about a year, while plans are made for rebuilding.

Children Receive Nourishing Supplies
The shipment from the Dominican Republic also included water, food, and other basic supplies for the children. Pastor Pierre Richard, Orphanage Administrator, reportedly indicated that these supplies will last them about two months. The physical condition of the children is better and they seem to be recuperating well. A church service was organized at the camp for the children, which I am sure provided emotional and spiritual comfort to them. The plot of land will need to be secured with some type of wall and another temporary building put up to house the adult workers. The land has a well but a water filtration system will be needed along with either a generator or solar panels to provide electricity.

Medical Team Arriving
The National Overseer of the Dominican Republic, Bishop Jorge Marreno, traveled into Haiti today, accompanied by two doctors and a nurse. They are also transporting medical supplies. They plan to examine the children and provide medical care.

The Church of God of Prophecy is Responding
One small church in Texas had a hamburger lunch after their Sunday morning service, with people paying $50 for a hamburger for Haiti. They raised $2,000 for Haiti. A member wrote from Jamaica with the news that they were contributing personally and the nation had sent a medical team and other volunteers. The phones are ringing at International Offices constantly as people call volunteering to join a work team, send a donation, inquire about how to help further. This will be a long term effort and we appreciate everything that is being done for the precious people of Haiti.

The Earth Is Still Shaking In Haiti

Yesterday, a strong aftershock rattled the already devastated capital of Haiti, sending traumatized people fleeing into the streets and away from buildings. Aid is flowing but the situation is still patchy with many areas isolated from the aid. Our effort to bring aid to our Haitian brothers and sisters is intensifying. Plans are being finalized to truck in supplies from the Dominican Republic for the Leogane orphans and hundreds of people who are occupying the courtyards of the Church of God of Prophecy's National Complex. Three physicians from the Dominican Republic will be accompanying this shipment to provide expert medical assistance to the children and other needy Haitians. Antibiotics, pain medicine and other medical supplies will be delivered in this shipment as well.

All across Haiti stories of faith and hope are being written as the saints in Haiti intercede, share, and praise God in the middle of devastation and desperate need. Bishop Dorlean, National Overseer of Haiti, is still attempting to gain a clearer picture of the needs of our faithful members. He reports that eight of our churches in the Port-au-Prince area collapsed when the ground began to tremble. Tragedy struck the church at Sans Fils, where almost an entire choir perished during rehearsal, along with a Women's group that was conducting an activity at the time of the quake. About 60 people died in this one church. A deacon was killed at the Mariani church and several members died inside the church at Waney.

Brother Dorlean estimates that he knows of about 80 church members who have lost their lives in the earthquake. Thousands of our members are homeless, without shelter, food or water. The yard surrounding the National Complex is filled with members and others who have taken refuge there seeking assistance.

We are grateful to God that Bishop Dorlean's immediate family has been spared, although he has lost a cousin and his wife has lost two cousins.

Plans are being made to construct a temporary building to house the children from the orphanage on a piece of land owned by a church member. The materials and equipment will be taken in from the Dominican Republic within the next week, so shelter can be provided before the rains come. This important step should be completed by the end of next week. Your financial support and prayers are making a difference to our Haitian family. Team From Dominican Republic Meets with Haiti Overseer

Bishop Flavio Rosario and Pastor Quiterion Rosario were able to make their way into Port-au-Prince on Saturday and met with Bishop Dorlean, overseer of Haiti, and some of our Haitian brothers. The long journey into the Haitian capital was slowed by traffic, clogging the roads as others sought to deliver aid. At many points the roadways were made impassable by debris so although delayed, the Dominican team arrived safely. They delivered enough food and water to the children at the orphanage to last about a week. Bishop Dorlan was overwhelmed by the support and could not find words to express his gratitude for this act of Christian solidarity.

Bishop Benjamin Feliz, Director of Finance and Publications, was able to speak with Brother Dorlena and encourage him of the global church's full support for Haiti in this hour of crisis. The office of the General Presbyter of Central America, Mexico and the Hispanic Caribbean, along with the leadership of Panama and the Dominican district is providing tremendous assistance in the relief efforts. Bishop Quiterio Roasario, district overseer of the La Romana district in the Dominican Republic, is coordinating a truck shipment of water, food, sheets, blankets, and some tents and other supplies within the next 48 hours. Plans are being made for additional shipments of supplies from the Dominican Republic National Office.

The General Presbyter of the Caribbean, Bishop Rice Thompson, is working with his leadership to provide relief and assistance to our Haitian brothers and sisters. Given the difficulties with getting supplies into Haiti by air or sea, the land route from the Dominican is the most feasible, despite the challenges with security on the ground. COGOP In The Throes of Haiti Quake

It has been more than 48 hours since a 7.0 quake pummeled Port-auPrince, capital of Haiti, demolishing the already tenuous existence of millions in this nation that shares an island with the Dominican Republic. The Church of God of Prophecy, its members, and ministries have not escaped unscathed. The National Overseer, Bishop Jean Claude Dorlean, althrough reported to be safe, has not been able to make contact with our International Offices. Five of the orphans at the Leogane Orphanage administered by the church died apparently when the Girls Dormitory collapsed. Two adult workers are also confirmed dead. Brother Pierre Richard Mirand, Orphanage Administrator, who was appointed to the post at the 2006 convention, reports that the orphanage walls, the sea wall (the orphanage is on the west coast of the island), and the Administrator's home all sustained extensive damage. Twelve of the children were injured, two seriously enough to require Bishop Dorlean to undertake a four hour journey with them to one of the few hospitals left standing on the island.

The ground is still shaking periodically in Haiti as there have been more than 50 aftershocks since the initial earthquake, with some of these tremors exceeding 5.0 on the Richter Scale. The 68 surviving children and staff are in dire straits outside the walls of the orphanage compound in a field about 900 meters from the orphanage, fearful of further aftershocks.

The Church of God of Prophecy in Haiti has been led by Bishop Dorlean since 2002 and currently has more than 75,000 members, with 263 churches and 156 licensed ministers, with a number of schools, and a clinic among its various ministries. Brother Mirand, who also serves as a district overseer, noted some of the broader impact of the tragedy, reporting that of the 11 churches in his region, only one is still standing and he is unsure of the shape it's in. Two of his pastors have children who are trapped in their school building. He has been unable to make contact with many of his pastors, a number of whom are already know to be among the missing.

The normal communication challenges experienced in Haiti have been exacerbated by the destruction of telephone lines and cell towers, and the overloading of the system by the massive numbers of people attempting to reach friends, relatives, and colleagues. Currently, the system is only allowing two minutes calls before an automatic disconnect mechanism disrupts service.

At this time, we do not have detailed information regarding the stats of the National Office, school and headquarters church on Dwight Eisenhower Boulevard, where conventions are typically held, although Brother Mirand thinks that this complex escaped serious damage, except for a few walls and some minor damage to the school.

A team of leaders from the Republic, led by Panama Overseer, Flavio Rosario and Pastor Quiterio Rosario, have gone into Haiti to try to assess the situation and make contact with Bishop Dorlean. I urge you to call on all those who know God to pray for safety, wisdom, protection, and provision for these leaders and all the people of Haiti.
